One of the most common microbiological analyses
is the quantification of microorganisms or total bacterial count (TBC),
where the sample must be previously diluted to reduce the number of microorganisms to a countable level.
The current range of available diluents (MRD, NACL, BPW, EP), along with the volume of the cups (usually 9 mL) makes this serial dilution system very suitable for the following industries:
Food microbiology
In order to ensure the quality of food and feed, they must undergo various chemical and microbiological analyses.
Usually, a first dilution in a stomacher bag is needed for solid matrices such as meat, fish, whole egg, vegetables, animal feed, milk powder, cream, etc...
Recommended diluents:
- Dilucup MRD (Maximal Recovery Diluent)
- Dilucup BPW (Buffered Peptone Water)
Dairy industry
Food safety
Animal feed
Probiotics Industry
To count probiotic strains you need diluents that have a very accurate volume, otherwise the accumulated error in each dilution may give you a wrong result.
Dilucup® is the only system capable of offering you ready-to-use diluents in the range of 9 mL ± 0.5% (read the latest analysis here).
Bio Industry
Biotechnological processes and especially all fermentation types need to be controlled and monitored at various levels:
Control of purity and concentration of the starters (bacteria, yeasts)
Quantification of the microbiological population in reactors, fermenters...
Assessment of the quality of the final products
Paper Industry
Slime forming bacteria are prohibited around the paper machines and their growth is controlled through the use of efficient combinations of chemicals (biocides, dispersing agents…).
Count of microorganisms present in tanks
Paper manufacturing
Control of microorganisms present in pipes, ponds, cooling towers, etc.
Process Water
Biological wastewater treatment is a sanitation method that uses different types of microorganisms to purify and clean contaminated water, thus promoting a healthier environment.
Biological wastewater treatment
Decontamination and recycling of wastewater
Quantification of microorganisms
Cosmetic Industry
It’s common to introduce microbial inhibitors in cosmetics to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms in the products. The efficiency of these inhibitors must be checked with a microbiological method.
